Trading starts as H. Incledon & Co.
Identifying the growing South African gold mines as a promising market for pipes, valves and pipe fittings, Herbert Incledon of Edgbaston, Birmingham started trading as H. Incledon & Co.
First consignment to Johannesburg
Using experience gained at Lloyds & Lloyds, the forerunner to Stewarts & Lloyds, the first consignment was dispatched to Johannesburg and sold by Robert Philpot, his South African agent.
Brother Walter takes up the reins
By the end of the first year the fledgling company had shown a small profit, and the mines soon began to depend on the quality workmanship of Incledon.
Increased demand brings expansion
To meet increased demand for steel pipe, the company acquired Lambert Brothers (Walsall) and began exporting steel pipes and fittings to South Africa.
Expansion fever
During the Depression years Gerald Incledon, Herbert's son, joined the newly established Durban branch. The company soon began to expand, and the expansion fever reached the Johannesburg operation.
Blakeborough–Incledon plant
A Blakeborough–Incledon plant was established in Benoni to manufacture valves, and Incledon & Lamberts was formed as a holding company.
London Stock Exchange
The company listed on the London Stock Exchange. A South African board of directors was appointed and a new company formed: H. Incledon & Co. (South Africa).
An established name
By the mid-1950s Incledon was well established as a supplier to the engineering and building industries and to public authorities.
Boumat Limited
Boumat Limited acquired the shareholding, and the decision was taken to re-enter the pipe, valve and pipe-fittings supply market.
Plumbing & civil markets
Management with many years in the industry acquired the company from Boumat and re-entered the plumbing and civil markets, while retaining the markets developed since inception.
Incledon Cape (Pty) Ltd
Incledon Cape was formed as a separate legal entity through a management buyout of the Cape Town branch by Glenn Turner and Mark Laden. Chris van Wyk was appointed Sales Director in 2015.
Trademark acquired
Mark Laden and Chris van Wyk acquired the shareholding of Glenn Turner. In the same year they acquired the Incledon trademark and continued trading under the new entity.
